Barça help to promote Catalunya
David Saura (enviat especial)
FC Barcelona have not only being promoting the club and the team during the first few days of their trip to Asia but have also joined the Catalan Tourism Agency (ACT) in promoting Catalunya as a place to visit.
The Blaugrana helped with a presentation to around 100 people in Seoul as tour operators and
journalists flocked to hear about all the attractions that the area has to offer. This event will
also be held when the club travel on to China for their second pre-season friendly.
Barça director Jordi Moix made a welcome speech and then gave a brief introduction before
fellow board member Didac Lee took over,. Born in Figueres to Chinese-Taiwanese parents he was able
to outline the integration that many Asians have made in Catalunya.
Museum visit
Laurent Colette, the new Marketing Manager at Camp Nou, was able to
present the main attractions of FC Barcelona at a sporting level and also an institutional one with
the emphasis placed on the commercial potential. The FCB Museum was highlighted for tourists, but
Camp Nou as a place to hold celebrations and business meetings was also touted along with the
chance to hire VIP boxes.
Main attractions
Then the director of the Centre for Promoting Tourism in China, Antonio
Li, stepped forward to speak about the main tourist attractions in Catalunya that include the
Pyrenees, the Costa Brava, the Costa Dorada and Barcelona itself. Culture, gastronomy, shopping and
tourist conventions were also touched on.
To close the presentation the club produced a number of replica Barça shirts and gave away
tickets for the game against the K-League Select Xi on Wednesday. This venture was part of a joint
agreement signed some years ago between the club and ACT. The link up has allowed ACT to make
presentations such as this in place such as Paris, London, Milan, Glasgow, Tokyo and Shanghai,
among others.
