The secretary and spokesperson for the Board of Directors, Toni Freixa, has announced a thorough reform of the Club Statutes. He also confirmed that the membership will play an important part in the initial phase.
The Board of FC Barcelona met on Monday morning in the Camp Nou. Afterwards, the official
spokesperson spoke to reporters to explain the decisions that had been taken: to initiate a reform
of the Statutes, to approve a code of ethics and to appoint Josep Maria Prat as cultural councillor
of FC Barcelona.
Club Statutes
Regarding the Club Statutes, Mr Freixa revealed that the initial phase of the process will be
open to the membership, who will be able to submit their suggestions via the Club’s website.
He told reporters: "The Club will evaluate these suggestions and put
them before a commission of experts that will be set up over the next few days. We want to find out
what the membership wants and that’s a task that must be carried out between us all.
Whatever’s best for the Club must be the will of the members”. He also announced that
an extraordinary assembly will be convened in March or April to discuss this matter and that the
Board would also contribute their ideas.
A new code of ethics
The Board of Directives also approved a new code of ethics for the good governance of the
Club with the objective of, “guaranteeing excellence, transparency and honesty in the
management of the Club”. He announced the setting of “a control and transparency
commission”, made up of “people of recognized prestige and, of course, honesty, who in
no case whatsoever will be paid”.
This code of ethics will forbid, among other things, “giving employment to relatives,
involving the Club in disproportionate expenses, receiving commissions, or any acts that jeopardize
the good name of the Club”. The intention is to “go beyond that which is laid down in
the regulations”. “This is a commitment by the Board, the commissions and the
executives to improve management. We want to put the interests of the Club first. This code will
have nothing to do with the imposition of sanctions, which is the responsibility of the
disciplinary commission”.
Josep Maria Prat, new cultural councillor
Mr Freixa also announced that Josep Maria Prat has been appointed as the Club’s new
cultural councillor. The post will be attached to the Board.
