Four Barça players in Europe team
Ronaldinho, Puyol, Zambrotta and Thuram have been chosen to take part in a European select side that will face Manchester United on March 13 in a game to be played at Old Trafford.
FC Barcelona will be providing four members of the European team: Ronaldinho, Zambrotta, Puyol and
Thuram. They will be appearing in a friendly on March 13 at 20.00 against Manchester United at Old
Trafford. What is being called the Celebration Match is a tribute to of Manchester United’s
50 years in European competition half a century after the Treaty of Rome laid the foundations for
the modern day European Union.
However, their presence cannot be confirmed until Frank Rijkaard gives the go ahead, although
as it stands, Barça is the team with the most players in this European side.
Reunions
The European side will be coached by Italian Marcello Lippi. Lippi of course knows both
Thuram and Zambrotta only too well since his days in charge at Juventus. Zambrotta was also a key
member of the Lippi coached Italy team that won the World Cup last summer in Germany.
Other players
Apart from the four Barcelona stars, the remainder of the side will feature at least another
six players already confirmed, namely Eric Abidal, Juninho Pernambucano and Gregory Coupet of
Olympique Lyon, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher of Liverpool, and David Beckham of Real Madrid.
