As tradition dictates since 1997, the European Champion will give back the trophy prior to the quarter final draw so that it may be put on display in the city hosting the final. Joan Laporta, Txiki Begiristain and Giuly will attend the ceremony.
At midday on Friday, FC Barcelona will give back the European Champions Cup won in Paris last
year to UEFA president Michel Platini. The main protagonist will be Ludovic Giuly - absent from the
classic due to suspension – who will present to trophy and talk to his countryman Platini.
The UEFA president will then hand the Cup to the mayor of Athens Nikitas Kaklamanis.
The Greek capital will put the trophy on public display until the final takes place at the
Olympic Stadium on the 23rd of May.
Laporta will be present
The Barcelona delegation will be led by president Joan Laporta who travels to Greece along
with Giuly, technical secretary Txiki Begiristain and director Albert Perrín. Following the
presentation of the trophy, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League will be held.
Once the ceremony at the Megaron International conference centre has finished the Barcelona
delegation will head back to Barcelona.
