Eusebio: “We are very keen to win the double”
Eusebio Sacristán is thrilled by the possibility of winning the League and Cup double. “The aim should be for our sense of identity to help us maintain our regularity though the final stages of the season”.
FC Barcelona are back on top of the League, and the third manager, Eusebio Sacristán, has told
Barça TV’s Zona Mixta programme just how keen the team is to perform well in the two
tournaments still at stake. “We want to win the double, and we are in a good position to do
so. That would make this a great season”, he said. He is aware that winning any titles is a
major challenge, but that a third league championship in a row would be an extraordinary
achievement.
A very valuable point
Eusebio was very proud of the way his team fought back to take a point out of the Madrid
game. “We managed to regain the impetus and fighting spirit that we were missing and were
able to overcome the adversities” he said. And now it is time to look ahead and start
forgetting some of the difficult moments “with the right mentality and enthusiasm we need to
win more titles”.
3-4-3, one additional weapon
As a former members of the Dream Team, there are few people with a better idea than Eusebio
of what playing a 3-4-3 can achieve. As he said today “at La Romareda that tactic worked to
perfection and managed to surprise the opposition”. But at Anfield he argued “we
didn’t find the spaces we needed”. Then they tried it again against Madrid, and the
conclusion seems to be that “we have a weapon for countering the kinds of difficulties the
opposition might create”.
Looking for regularity
Looking at the remaining games the main challengers for the league title have, it seems that
Barça seem to have the best schedule. But Eusebio does not think it is a good idea to start
comparing different fixture lists and says “the aim should be for our sense of identity to
help us maintain our regularity though the final stages of the season”.
