Despite being sidelined for three months through injury, Leo Messi has still managed to set a
new personal record for league goals. Two seasons ago, when Messi made his first team debut, he
scored just one goal, while last season he managed 6 in 17 matches. This term has seen him improve
on that number, having just scored for the seventh time in 15 appearances. At the 19 years of age,
the youngster is improving as each year goes by.
A goal to go down in history
Leo Messi scored his first official goal in a Barça shirt on May 1, 2005. That was against
Albacete in the league, and at just 17 years, 10 months and 7 days, it meant he goes down as the
youngest player to ever score a league goal for the club. It was a great start to a career that has
seen the player go from strength to strength.
Demonstrating his prowess
It was last season that we began to appreciate just what a goalscoring talent Messi is. He
scored in three different competitions, the League, Champions League and Cup. In the former he
scored six times, including two against Mallorca in just a quarter of an hour. He was also on
target in Europe against Panathinaikos and in the Copa del Rey against Zaragoza.
Even more
But this season is
proving to be the best yet for Leo Messi. He has just scored four goals in two games, making a
total of seven, with eleven games still to play. Before his injury, Messi scored a crucial
Champions League goal against Werder Bremen. We no longer need to speak of this player’s
promising future. The future, for this amazing talent, has already arrived.
