Sevilla, Getafe & Depor, possible rivals in the cup
The draw for the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey will take place this Thursday at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation. FC Barcelona, Sevilla, Getafe are Deportivo are the teams who will be looking for a place in the final.
Four first division teams will go into the hat for Thursday’s semi-final draw at the
headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation. Valladolid, the only survivor from outside the top
flight were eliminated by Deportivo. The Galicians along with Getafe and Sevilla (who completed the
suspended quarter-final with Betis on Tuesday) are the possible rivals for Barça in the final
hurdle before the final.
Below is a brief guide to the three possible rivals for Barça in Thursdays draw:
Sevilla
After eliminating Betis and Rayo Vallecano, Juande Ramos team have been enjoying a successful
season. The Andalusians are one of the few European teams still involved in three competitions.
However that may turn out to be a disadvantage for Sevilla who will have a end of season full of
decisive games in the league, the cup and the UEFA Cup.
Getafe
Bernd Schuster’s team have been the surprise package of the competition so far and have
also been enjoying the best season in their history. With their place in the top division all but
assured Getafe will be hoping for a place in the cup final and a chance to play in European
competition next season. Xerez, Valencia and Osasuna have been the victims of the Madrid side so
far in the cup.
Deportivo
Inconsistent in the league, Deportivo go into the semi-finals in a disappointing 12th place
in the league with 36 points and just nine victories in their 27 games. In the previous rounds
Deportivo eliminated the leader of the second division (Valladolid in the quarter-final) Mallorca
in the last 16 and Racing Santander in the round before that.
