Saviola waiting to hear Barça offer
Javier Saviola’s contract ends on June 30, and he is keen to know whether or FC Barcelona plan to offer him a renewal. “The club has not approached me” said the Argentinian striker.
Javier Saviola does not know what FC Barcelona plan to do with him in the future. With just three
months of the season left, the Argentinian says he would like to stay on at Barça, but has not yet
been approached on the matter in away by the club.
Concerned with the situation
Saviola claims to be worried about his future status. “I just want them to come forward
and tell me what they think” he said. “But I am not holding a gun up to anybody to
force them to stay here. I don’t know how to deal with the situation. I don’t know what
I have to do to make them come and speak to me”.
Keen to stay
The player himself would be delighted to stay at the club. “I have had some lovely
years here” he said. “Since I gambled on staying at Barcelona, I have always come to
training and given it all I can. And when I play, too. I don’t regret the decision I made,
and I have always acted like a professional”.
Possible offers
Saviola did not want to speak about any offers he has received from teams other than FC
Barcelona. “Out of respect, I won’t speak about any clubs. I have not left Barça yet
and I don’t know yet if I will have to leave. The day I know what the club thinks, I will
start deciding whether to go or not”.
Up for the double
Saviola is convinced that Barça are favourites to win both the league and the cup. “I
think it’s a strange league” he said. “Sevilla, Valencia and Madrid have all put
forward their cases to be champions. But if we can get good results in our remaining games, it is
going to be difficult for the others”. Saviola considers it an advantage that Barça have
already played all their direct rivals. “That is reassuring, but we can’t afford to
relax. Any team can beat you. For instance, Nàstic beat Sevilla”.
