Further ahead at the top

After the 33rd weekend of matches in la Primera, FC Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the table. The team in second place, Real Madrid, are now points behind Frank Rijkaard’s side.
Having beaten Real Sociedad in Anoeta on Saturday evening, Sevilla’s 3-2 defeat at Real
Madrid on Sunday allowed Barça to move further clear at the summit. While the second-placed side
are two points back, Sevilla, who were one point behind, are now four off the pace.
Sevilla took the lead in the Bernabéu in the first half though Enzo Maresca, but Ruud Van
Nistelrooy scored twice and Robinho netted once to put the home side ahead. In the closing minutes
Ernesto Chevantón hit a second for Sevilla, but it proved to be too little, too late.
