Dutch Cup for former Barça stars
Sergi Nogueras
The two main trophies in Dutch football have a definite Barça flavour with a number of former Camp Nou favourites taking a leading role. This weekend it was the turn of Henk Ten Cate, Gabri, Roger and Davids to lift the Cup with Ajax.
The Dutch league, the Eredivise, had already been won by Ronald Koeman’s PSV with Cocu,
Kluivert and Reiziger in the squad but the Cup has gone to Ten Cate’s Ajax, with Gabri, Roger
and Davids Ajax beat AZ Alkmaar –managed by Louis Van Gaal – in a penalty shootout,
after the match ended 1-1.
Gabri and Davids
Apart from manager Henk Ten Cate, Gabri and Edgard Davids played a leading role for Ajax.
They both started the match and, while Gabri was sent off in the 89th minute, Davids scored the
winning penalty.
