In an interview broadcast on Barça TV, Leo Messi has insisted that Barça still have a realistic chance of winning the league on the last day of the season.
Messi spoke today (Monday) at a promotional event at the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña in
Barcelona. In answer to questions about the neck-and-neck race for the league title, he replied:
“It’s complicated but I’m confident that Mallorca can pull off a surprise”.
The last game
Barça travel the short distance down the coast to Tarragona for their last match of the
season against Gimnàstic while Real Madrid receive Mallorca in the Bernabeu. According to Messi:
“Barça will go there to win, as always. We have to think about our game then we’ll have
to wait”.
“It was in our hands”
As for Saturday’s draw against Espanyol – and the effect that had on the title
race - Messi admitted that the players were disappointed to have let the opportunity of going into
the last game of the season with a two-point lead vanish in thin air. However, he insisted the
players were still upbeat about their chances: “We have to focus on the game we have left
because absolutely anything can happen”.

9 goals in the second half of the season
Leo Messi missed much of the first half of the season due to injury but he’s certainly made
up for lost time in the second half. He’s scored 9 goals in just 14 matches: 3 against Real
Madrid, 2 against Atlético Madrid and Espanyol, and 1 each against Recreativo and Deportivo.
