Javier Saviola will be leaving FC Barcelona on June 30 after six years on the club’s books. The former River Plate star has played for four seasons at the club, while for the two others he was out on loan to Monaco and Sevilla.
Of his 49 league goals, 17 came in his first season under
then coach Carles Rexach. In 2002-03, he scored 13 under Frank Rijkaard and added 14 more in the
2003-04 season. During the season just ended, Saviola was on target 5 times.
In the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons Saviola was loaned out to Monaco and
then Sevilla. In the Principality he scored 11 times, 7 times in the French league and 4 times in
the Champions league. In Andalusia, the Argentinian was on target 18 times, with half those goals
coming in the league and the other half in UEFA Cup matches.
