Puyol out for at least three months

Surgery was performed on Carles Puyol’s torn ligaments in his left knee on Thursday night, and doctor Ramon Cugat has explained that the player will be sidelined for at least three months.

Speaking at a Friday morning press conference doctors Ricard Pruna and Ramon Cugat have explained the extent of injuries to Carles Puyol and José Edmílson. Both operations went ahead without problems. Speaking about the Barça captain, Ramon Cugat announced that the recovery period “will be no less than three months as it is a treacherous and problematic tear.”

Surgery the only choice

No date for Edmílson

As for Edmílson, Ricard Pruna said that his time on the sidelines “could be long because he has been subjected to several operations, so this is not the time to give any dates. The aim is to get the knee ready for tomorrow.” Arthroscopy has shown that “the cartilage was damaged” but Pruna is optimistic and claims that their aim is for “the knee to get clean and well.”

Bad news
Ramon Cugat said that after the match against Mamelodi Sundowns he had already warned Puyol that “I suspected this could be a traumatic injury” and that if his fears were confirmed “we would need to act urgently.” The captain was told of this in the Loftus Stadium dressing room just after the second half had ended.
