Valdés: “We have to put every effort into all three competitions”

Anna Segura

Víctor Valdés has not given up on the league despite the difference between Barça and Madrid, and the heavy blow of failing to win at San Mamés. He knows there is still a long way to go and that the team has to keep fighting to do the best they can.

The draw at Athletic Bilbao was not a result that pleased the squad, but rather than letting their heads drop, the players are ready to keep up the fight.

Víctor Valdés:

“We have to put every effort into all three competitions. This was a step in the wrong direction. We can only hope that the leaders drop points and that we can win our own games”.

“Athletic had a good second half. They had a chance, and they scored from it, and that gave them the push they needed. They saw they had a chance, and also defended well, giving us few chances”.

“It is a sad day for us because we could only afford to win. There is nothing decided yet and there are plenty of games left. There is nothing we can do other than win a game at a time”.

“The team gave it everything but things fell off a bit in the second half. And they played well, especially in defence”.

“We want to win more than anybody, to win for Barça and to win titles. Now we just have to keep pressing on with what we do”.

Andrés Iniesta:

“We did the hardest thing, go ahead, and it looked like we had the game won. But we were unable to control the game in the second half”.

“We didn’t ease off because we knew that the damage could come at any moment. They played direct football, and we were unable to deal with it”.

“We needed more of the ball. We had very few chances to get the ball”.

“We have not said goodbye to the league, and won’t until it is mathematically decided. There are lots of games left”.
