Eto’o and Touré shine in group stage
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Samuel Eto’o and Touré Yaya have led Cameroon and Ivory Coast into the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations. Both players have scored and played every minute of their countries’ matches so far.
Barça’s two representatives in the African Cup of Nations, Samuel Eto’o and Touré Yaya,
are doing well. Eto’o is the competition’s leading scorer with five goals and is
already the highest scorer in the history of the competition with 16. Meanwhile, Touré Yaya has won
every game in the so-called “group of death” with Nigeria and Mali.
Cameroon runners up in group
Despite an initial setback against Egypt (2-4), Cameroon have qualified
comfortably in second place – behind Egypt - thanks to wins against Zambia (5-1) and Sudan
(3-0). They will now take on Tunisia.
If they reach the semifinals, Cameroon will face strong opponents in either host country
Ghana or Nigeria.
Ivory Coast unstoppable
Ivory Coast have an impeccable record so far in the competition. They have beaten Nigeria
(1-0), Benin (4-1) and Mali (3-0). Touré Yaya has played every minute and scored an opportunistic
goal against Benin. They will now play Guinea, who finished second in Group A behind Ghana, in the
quarterfinals.
If they reach the semifinals, Ivory Coast will face Egypt or Angola.
Cameroon and Ivory Coast cannot meet before the final.
