27th May, friendly in Kuwait

www.fcbarcelona.cat

On 27th May, once the competitive season has finished, FC Barcelona will play a friendly match against Kuwaiti club Kazma, from that country’s capital city.

It will be Barça’s first match in Kuwait but not the first in the Arab world. At the end of last season, Barça played a friendly against Al Ahly from Cairo, Egypt.

Kazma president, Assad A. Al Banwan, is delighted to play host to Barça: “This is very important for Kuwait because football is very popular. It is the leading sport, the number 1 sport, and Barça is the best team in the world. People like Barça in Kuwait and we’re very pleased Barça is coming. Barça has not only won the league but they are European champions and have the best players in the world. Their visit will be a great pleasure”.

qm3d8401.jpgFCB vice-president for marketing, Jaume Ferrer, believes this type of agreement is essential for the Club’s worldwide projection: “The fact that we’re “More than a club” is clear to everyone in Catalonia and in Spain. What was missing was the rest of the world. In a globalised world, we have to be everywhere, and we’re achieving that with agreements such as UNICEF and social sponsorship”.

Second match in the Arab world

This will be Barça’s second match in the Arab world following on from last season’s game against Al Alhy. Jaume Ferrer told us: “This is very important for us. We were offered the possibility of going to the Middle East with the first team to show our players and promote Barça in the region. The fact is that Barça is highly valued there and so the agreement is very important”.
