After their game with Zaragoza the Barça players said they were pleased to have reduced the difference in points with Madrid. They admitted that it had been a tough match.
The FC Barcelona players are aware that victory in La Romareda means a lot more than just three
points after Real Madrid lost to Betis. And they know that they’ve managed to win at a ground
that’s always tough for visiting sides.
Carles Puyol:
“Things are looking good. We worked hard in the game, and we’re really happy with
the three points.”
“It’s been a good day for us. Now we have to keep going and think about Wednesday
when we have a really important match.”
“We’ve got to focus on ourselves and get those three points. But obviously if
they slip up that’s a whole lot better.”
“I’ve worked hard while I’ve been out injured. We’ve been making
progress and today we took a risk.”
Gaby Milito:
“Both sides needed the three points. We knew that we
might get this type of match.”
“We needed this win knowing that Madrid had lost. That’s really good for
us.”
“They have good strikers. We’ve had a lot of work to do.”
“We’ve got to keep on picking up points.”
Víctor Valdés:
“It’s been a great day for us. This is a tough place to visit and we’ve won
a difficult game. And we’ve taken three points off Madrid’s lead, which is
important.”
“Luck is part of football. It’s been an intense game where we’ve tried to
do things right. It’s a tough ground to visit and we’ve tried to play well.”
Laporta: “It’s been a great day all round”
The chairman of FC Barcelona, who watched the game from the directors’ box at La Romareda,
said after the match that “it’s been a great day all round for Barça. We’ve cut
Madrid’s lead by three points and are now five behind.” Although he admitted that there
is still some way to go, Joan Laporta believes that “we just have to keep on going.
We’re gradually getting back injured players and we’re making the team that we
want.” The Barça chairman also congratulated the players “because they’re pulling
together and battling it out.”
