Xavi: “The team had a terrific attitude”

Victory in La Romareda has really boosted the team’s morale. Xavi spoke about the attitude of the players in the game with Zaragoza and said that at last a bit of luck has come their way.
Xavi Hernàndez was very upbeat about the victory over Zaragoza in La Romareda and at the press
conference after this lunchtime’s training session he highlighted the mentality and attitude
of the team: “The team had a terrific attitude. We were gunning for the three points right
from the off. We knew that Madrid had lost in Seville and we had to do the business. Lucky? Well,
we did have a slice of luck but about time too, and the team was very positive throughout the
game.”
Still a long way to go
Xavi doesn’t reckon that the Real Madrid
players will be worried because Barça has picked up four more points than them over the last three
games. The midfielder thinks that there’s still a long way to go in the League and a lot can
happen: “I don’t think Madrid will be getting nervous. Obviously we hope they continue
to slip up as their run of victories just wasn’t normal. We’ve got to keep on taking
advantage of all the chances we get to cut their lead, just like we’ve been doing lately, and
show that we are after that League title.”
Can do even better
The Barça midfielder admitted that Barça could play better and that how they played in the
first half at La Romareda is the way to go. “At this stage in the League the most important
thing is to pick up the three points,” he said. “I don’t care how we do it. We
have a very clear philosophy of playing football but we can’t always put it into practice.
It’s true that in the second half we lost control of the game, but in the first half the team
really went for it against tough opponents.”
