The first team trained today in preparation for Sunday’s clash with Levante. Rijkaard was able to work with all of the players at his disposition, apart from Rafa Márquez.
After the important win in Europe, it is back to the domestic league and
the game at the Camp Nou with bottom of the table Levante.
The session got under way with the typical drills although goalkeepers Víctor Valdés and José
Manuel Pinto trained separately at this point with their own coach Juan Carlos Unzué.
Fitness and tactics
The squad then worked simultaneously on two areas. Groups of four
players practiced shots on goals defended by Valdés and Pinto, while the others did an exercise
that focussed on positions for creating pressure and recovering the ball. The eight players taking
target practice were Eto’o, Xavi, Gudjohnsen, Giovani, Bojan, Sylvinho, Zambrotta and
Edmílson.
Once this part was over, the players that started in Glasgow went jogging and sprinting
before retiring to the changing rooms. The other players continued with fitness circuits and shots
on goal.
