David Puig

Gianluca Zambrotta has set his sights on winning both the league title and the Champions League with FC Barcelona this season and believes his aim will be boosted by the return of Rafa Márquez, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi.

The Italian defender has not lost faith in the Blaugrana's chances of winning silverware this term. In the press conference after training on Thursday he explained that he is optimistic with regards to the end of the season. "We are still in two competitions," he said. "In the Champions League we are three games from the final and in the league, although it is difficult, we also have chances in the remaining games."

When asked if had any regrets about his decision to join Barcelona, Zambrotta was adamant: "Absolutely not," he said. "I do not regret anything and I want to win two trophies with Barça."

"It is very important to recover such vital players like Messi, Ronaldinho and Márquez," he continued. "Messi is someone that could be crucial towards the end of the season. We expect him to play in the semi finals of the Champions League, if we beat Schalke. But not him alone. We want all the players to come back in the next few weeks."

Defensive optimism
Barça have conceded 12 goals in March, which is well above the average for the team earlier in the season. Zambrotta could not explain why it has happened, but was optimistic. "I do not understand what has happened, although I think that these things can happen to any side at some stage in a year. One positive note is that we have a 1-0 lead against Schalke."
