Puyol: “We have some hard thinking to do”

FC Barcelona’s captain believes that the team has some hard thinking to do after once again failing to win after taking the lead.

Puyol thinks that “the opposition ought to open up when we get ahead and not create so many chances as has been happening recently.” The club captain cannot find an explanation as to why Barça can do the hard part and get ahead only for them to be unable to maintain their lead. That’s why Puyol thinks they have some “hard thinking” to do about this situation, which has occurred in recent weeks with Atlético de Madrid, Almería, Betis and last night in Huelva.

Below are the comments of the FC Barcelona players about the game:

Puyol

“We can’t give up but it is getting tougher all the time. We’re finding it increasingly hard to win.”

“We are unlikely to win the League if we can’t win two games in a row.”

“We do need to think hard about this. We do the hard part, getting a lead, and then we stop creating chances. We have to get better in this respect because when we take the lead our opponents ought to open up.”

“There are a lot of experienced players in the dressing room and we have to improve.”

Valdés

“The first goal was a pity and obviously a mistake by the linesman, while the second was a bit strange.”

“I spoke to the linesman in the tunnel and he said that he can also make mistakes. I said there was no problem but that you really can’t make decisions like that.”

“You can’t blame the ref.”

“I think they got better like Betis, and they had some chances. It’s a pity because we’d had a good first half and we began the second by scoring.”

“If we don’t take our chances and we don’t get all three points, then obviously we’re letting important points get away.”

Ezquerro

“I felt good and gave my all.”

“We feel like we’ve let two important points get away. We could have won.”

Vázquez makes his League debut
Víctor Vázquez made his League debut last night with the Barça first team. He came on for Ezquerro and played the last 13 minutes. “I wanted to make my debut but the result isn’t what we were hoping for, so the draw’s a bit bittersweet,” he said after the game.
Vázquez spoke about his performance at the Nuevo Colombino: “I had to go out to do what I know. That’s what the coach told me before I came on and I think that things went okay for me.”
