Víctor Vázquez, the Barça B striker, made his debut against Recreativo with FC Barcelona’s first team in the League. He is the fifth player from the club’s youth academy ranks to make his debut this season.
After being called up to the squad four times on League duty (Seville-Barça, Almería-Barça,
Barça-Valladolid and Recreativo-Barça), Víctor Vázquez finally made his first team debut in the
competition against Recreativo de Huelva. In the 77th minute coach Frank Rijkaard made his third
change and brought on Vázquez for Santi Ezquerro. That gave the young striker 13 minutes on the
pitch which he used to great effect.
Experience in the Catalan Cup
Víctor Vázquez played for the first time under Frank
Rijkaard at the start of the season in Barça’s Catalan Cup semi-final against Girona. The
reserve team striker also played in the final of the competition against Gimnàstic de Tarragona and
scored the first goal of the game.
The fifth to debut in the League
Since the start of the season a total of five youth academy players have made their debuts
with FC Barcelona’s first team in the League: Bojan, Giovani, Pedrito, Víctor Vázquez and
Víctor Sánchez. Two of them, Bojan Krkic and Giovani dos Santos, first turned out for Barça’s
first team at the start of the season. Bojan made his debut against Osasuna in the Reyno de
Navarra, where he played a total of 12 minutes, while the Mexican striker first took the field in
the FC Barcelona-Athlétic Club fixture and played for 29 minutes.
In addition to,Reyno Bojan and Giovani, Frank Rijkaard has also called on another three
players from Pep Guardiola’s team: the all-rounder: Víctor Sánchez and strikers Pedrito and
Víctor Vázquez.
Víctor Sánchez made his debut in the Cup
Víctor Sánchez was the fourth of the Barça B players to
make his debut with the first team in the League. Even though he had played in the King’s Cup
against Alcoyano in the Camp Nou, he didn’t make his League debut until matchday 28 against
Almería in the Juegos del Mediterráneo stadium.,Mediterráneo Sánchez came on in stoppage time for
Gudjohnsen.
Pedrito turns out twice
Pedrito made his debut just after Bojan and Giovani when he played in the last League game of
the first half of the season against Murcia in the Camp Nou. Pedrito came on in the 88th minute to
replace Eto'o. He also got some more minutes on the pitch with the first team on matchday 29
against Valladolid when he came on for Bojan Krkic.
