Sylvinho has admitted that he is very keen to stay at FC Barcelona and believes that he is currently in good form. "I am pleased the work that I have done one a personal level," he said.
"In an interview on Barça TV, the Brazilian full-back talked about the possibility of him renewing
his contract at Camp Nou and explained that it is his main aim. "I really want to stay here," he
continued. "The truth is that I am very comfortable in the city, I feel I identify with the club
and also all my family are here now."
"A personal reward"
Reflecting on the praise that Txiki Begiristain heaped on
him last Monday, Sylvinho admitted he was happy. The Blaugrana technical secretary stated that the
player had "a very good season on the pitch and in the dressing room and therefore the club would
strive to reach an agreement over a new deal". Sylvinho believes that it "is reward for all the
hard work I have put in this season".
Veteran star
If he does renew his contract then Sylvinho would become one of the elder statesmen of the
squad during his fifth season at the club. "If I stay, Barça will have been the club where I have
spent the most time," he continued. "That would be an important thing for me."
Guardiola’s role
Asked about the choice of Pep Guardiola to succeed Frank Rijkaard as
first team coach at Camp Nou, Sylvinho said. "It is great that pep is coming. Everyone wants him to
and he has done a great job with Barça B. On occasion we have trained with some of the B team
players and I know the work that Pep has done with them and how good it is. I wish him all the luck
and hope that everything works out for him."
Injury update
Sylvinho is currently coming back from an injury to his right knee and explained where he
currently stands. "Things are going well enough. I have been doing recuperation work for two weeks
and I have two more to go," he stated. "I expect to be at my best in time for next season."
