Josep Guardiola spoke to Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.cat immediately after putting pen to paper to the deal that commits him to FC Barcelona for the next two seasons.
The new first team coach spoke about his meteoric rise to take the reins of the first team and
revealed that his signature had been a mere formality: “It’s all been very quick. I
decided to coach a short time ago and today we have formalised something that the president had
already announced a few days ago. The only thing we’ve done today is make it official in
front of you all”.
Focussed on Barça B
Before he takes charge of the first team, Guardiola must face
the challenge of winning promotion with Barça B: “I’ve got my mind on Barbastro and
I’m trying not to lose concentration though it’s inevitable that my thoughts are
occasionally elsewhere. Barça B has to be in a higher division. There’ll be plenty of time to
talk and think about the future”. However he revealed that the preparation of the first team
is on track: “We’re following the necessary steps, so don’t worry”.

“Very special” for Vilanova
Tito Vilanova, who has assisted Guardiola in Barça B this season, also signed his contract this
Thursday lunchtime to join the first team coaching staff: “It’s very special that Pep
has once again placed his confidence in me for this project and to do so in the first team is even
more special”.
