Martín Cáceres helped Uruguay to a comprehensive victory against Peru in the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday while Diego Forlán netted a hat-trick.
Oscar Washington Tabárez's side improved dramatically following their lacklustre display in their
previous match, which they drew with Venezuela, and chalked up a fine win in the Centenario de
Montevideo.

After joining Barça earlier this month, Cáceres then flew out to join up with his
international team-mates and looked confident at the back. Uruguay were two goals ahead already
when Guerrero was sent off for Peru leaving them with an uphill struggle. Forlán scored twice
before half time an then completed his hat-trick 12 minutes after the restart. Bueno then netted
two goals in eight minutes and Abreu added a sixth in the closing stages.
The win means that Uruguay are fourth in the South American qualifying table for the next
World Cup in South Africa. They have eight points, the same as Brazil, who are fifth but having
played a game less. Uruguay's next match is against Colombia in September.
