Laporta: “I can’t wait for the season to start”

Anna Segura

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, is excited about next season, not just because of the football, but the basketball too. He thinks the team has high quality and talented players.

There is still another month to go before work starts again, with the new Josep Guardiola project raising the expectations of president Joan Laporta who has said “I am very excited and in a positive mood and I just can’t wait for the season to begin”. Laporta was speaking at the official presentation of Xavi Pascual as the coach of the Barça basketball team.

Major signings

He said “things are working out as we expected. The signings are reinforcements of the configuration of the squad”.

Team building

Laporta drew parallels with the summer of 2004, “when we bought players that gave good results”. Like then “we are building a team … when we build a team we get results”.

Messi, a football reference

Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Henry ... they are players at the highest media level and al top class players … and we have a player who is global reference, Messi”.

The vote of no confidence
Asked about the vote of no confidence that goes to the ballot box on July 6, Joan Laporta again said that “it has to be a process that respects democracy, which is one of this club’s most treasured values”.

He added “on the 6th the Board of Directors’ work will be censured or not. Our consciences are clean after the work we have done, and if the members want us to, we can do even better than we have.” He described the club to currently be in a “strong and solid” condition.
