Cáceres: "I will give everything to the team"
Roger Bogunyà
Martín Cáceres was presented as a new FC Barcelona player on Friday morning and admitted that he was very proud to have joined the club during his first meeting with the media at Camp Nou.
Following
Seydou
Keita's arrival
on Thursday, the Uruguayan defender became the second summer signing to pose for the
cameras after penning a four-year deal with a buy-out clause of €50m. As well as talking
about his pride, Cáceres explained that he was ready to give everything to his new club in order to
help bring success back to Barça.
Full of desire
Smiling throughout his appearance in front of the cameras and
journalists, Cáceres explained: "I have come here full of desire and feel great. It is not just
incredible to be joining a club like Barcelona, but also to think that I will be asked to play
alongside such superb players as Carles Puyol and Gaby Milito."
Central requirement
Barça's technical secretary, Txiki Begiristain, then stated:
"He is a young player who is extraordinarily fit, has a good mentality and can play in the centre
or on the left at the back. He is good at present and will be fantastic in the future.
"We needed to bring in players in the centre of defence after seeing both Lilian Thuram and
Edmílson leave the club this summer," he added.
Not easy to find players like him
Pep Guardiola was also delighted with the new arrival and believes he
will become a vital member of the squad. "He is young and is incredibly fit and also is his speed
is impressive. That will help a lot. He will show that he is talented."
His ability to play in more than one position and his speed will allow Cáceres to "play high
up the pitch" too according to Guardiola. "It is not easy to find players with his profile," he
concluded.
