New faces rise from reserves
Anna Segura
Seven of Barça’s reserve team will be travelling to the pre-season training camp on Monday at Saint Andrews. The new players have just had their first taste of what will be Barça 2007/08.
The start of the new season has given us our first chance to see the seven reserve team players
that will be travelling to Saint Andrews in Scotland, namely Giovani Dos Santos, Bojan Krkic, Marc
Valiente, Oier Olazábal, Marc Crosas, Dimas and Jesús Olmo.
Three to repeat
In fact this is the second time for three players, Giovani, Marc Crosas and Olmo, who played
with the first team for two weeks in the USA and Mexico last summer. Frank Rijkaard also used these
players as part of his Copa del Rey and Copa Catalunya plans. Marc Valiente, another of the seven,
got his chance in the second leg of the cup tie against Badalona.
Friendlies in Egypt and South Africa
For the Egyptian friendly against Al-Ahly, Giovani, Jesús Olmo and Bojan were called up, and
Bojan even scored one of the goals.
Barça closed last season with a friendly against Mamelodi in South Africa and Dimas, Olmo and
Marc Crosas were handed an opportunity. Crosas made the most of it by scoring the winning goal.
First time for Oier Olazábal
Oier Olazábal, a goalkeeper signed this season, will also be joining the players making the
trip to Saint Andrews. The Basque stopper trained with the first team this Saturday for the very
first time.
