Márquez: “I want to perform to may best”
Berta Brau
The Mexican centre back has said he wants the team to the same or better than it did two years ago, although he is aware that it is not going to be easy.
After the first training session with practically the full squad, Rafa Márquez told the media that
he does not fear for his place because “there will always be competition at a club like
this” and that it is all about supporting each other. He added that he knows it “will
be more difficult and I will have to do my very best to get a place in the starting line up”.
25 men together
Rafa Márquez was “happy to see so many players together”
after the bulk of the squad returned to training after the Asian tour and “it is a good squad
and I hope we can achieve many things”. If this year’s squad is compared to last
season’s Rafa admits that he senses “the obligation to win” but that right now
they just need to “look forward to the new season”.
Form shaping up
Márquez didn’t go to Asia, but believes “it was positive because they won every
game, got in form and learnt to play together”. He doesn’t think there is any lack of
balance, in that “we could field two different teams and they would be well balanced”
and that “it will be the boss who decides how we play”.
