Iniesta: "It was an outstanding strike"
David Saura
Lionel Messi's winning goal against Bayern Munich was impressive and Andrés Iniesta was quick to recognise just how good the volley was. "It was an outstanding strike," he said.
The Manchego midfielder reflected on the skill and timing needed to hit the ball as it drops down
and give it power and direction like Messi did. "It is very difficult to hit a ball like that," he
continued. "Leo is always surprising us with something though."
Iniesta was pleased to see the Argentinian international back in the side after enjoying an
extended break following his participation in the Copa América. "It is great that he started like
that," he stated. "Now we have to hope that he carry on playing like this all season."
Patience is a virtue
Iniesta may have been regular fixture in Frank Rijkaard's
side during pre-season, but he understands that it may not mean that he will demand an automatic
starting place once the season begins: "We clearly have a great squad where everyone can play," he
said. "The squad is big and that is always a positive thing."
For the 24-year-old, the most important aspect is understanding when you are left out: "One
day it happens to one player and then the next it can happen to another," he explained. "What is
important that we know how to accept it. It is when everyone is part of a team that a team works.
We all have to be together as one, that is the mentality required."
Touré brings balance
Once again, Iniesta has reflected on the impact made by Yaya Touré since joining the club.
"He plays in a position where balance is required," he continued. "It is a key position in the
side. He is doing very well and with every game that he plays in he will improve even further."
