Maxi: "Barça will always be in my heart"
Anna Segura
Maxi López admitted that he was sad to be leaving FC Barcelona, but is happy to have found a new club after agreeing a move to FC Moskva. In his final press conference at Camp Nou he thanks the club and the fans for their support.
A day after
confirming his move to Russia
, the Argentinian striker explained his reasons for opting to leave the Blaugrana and stated
that "Barça will always be in my heart because the club gave me the chance to play in Europe for
the first time".
Relishing new challenge
Reflecting on the negotiations that led to his departure, Maxi said that once he knew that he
was not in the club's plans for next season "we looked for the easiest option for both clubs". He
recognised that the Russian club "wanted me to join very quickly. They are playing for trophies and
that attracted me. I want to continue to learn as much as possible".
Complete support
Although he is happy to have a new challenge ahead of him, Maxi could not hide his sorrow and
have to say goodbye to everyone at Barça: "I am leaving a great club, a hard-working squad and
friends that shown me a lot of support," he said. "I have made many friends here and it has been
brilliant. The fans have always supported me too and I will always remember that."
Maxi did not have many chances to impress in a Blaugrana shirt, but he insists that "I always
gave everything. I have learned a lot as there are so many experienced players here". When asked if
he felt he had failed during his time at the club, Maxi replied: "I am always positive and do not
have that word in my vocabulary."
Incredible moments
"Playing here has allowed me to fulfil a dream," the former River Plate forward continued. "I
have had the chance to live through some amazing times as part of a humble group of superstars."
During Maxi's time at the club he won two league titles and the Champions League.
