Despite losing the Catalonia Cup final against Nàstic 2-1, Eusebio has complimented the team – made up mainly of young hopefuls from Barça B – on the attitude shown throughout the match.
Eusebio Sacristán spoke at the post-match press conference after the defeat in Palamós against
Nàstic in the final of the Catalonia Cup. The Barça coach made especial mention of the attitude
displayed by the, mainly, young team: “They worked hard from the first to the last minute,
and from the first to the last player”.
“It wasn’t to be”
Frank Rijkaard’s assistant told reporters: “Both teams showed great intensity
throughout the match”. He praised the performance of the team as a whole: “The attitude
was very good. We tried everything possible. We would have liked to win this Cup but it
wasn’t to be”.
Satisfied with youngsters’ performance
Eusebio also highlighted the role played by the young players from Barça B: “The lads
performed very well. They and the more experienced players fitted in together well. The youngsters
from the reserve squad played at a very high standard and I think the team put in a good
performance”.
A competitive team
Eusebio outlined his view of the match: “In the first half, we put good pressure on the
opponents and stopped them from playing their game. In the second half, Nàstic came out looking
stronger”. As for the future, Eusebio insisted: “Barça aspires to win every competition
in which we take part. We came here to compete like a champion and the team showed that
spirit”.
