Goals and crowds at the Camp Nou
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Frank Rijkaard’s side has started the season with three comfortable wins at the Camp Nou, and the games were watched by an extraordinary average of 75,580 spectators.
Barça had a tricky challenge ahead of them this week. No fewer than three top class teams were due
at the Camp Nou in French champions Olympique Lyon, UEFA winners Sevilla and the always dangerous
Zaragoza. They have responded in style, with 9 goals scored and just 2 conceded.
Messi tops scoring
Thos eight days have been enough for Leo Messi to
move to the top of the scoring charts with four consecutive goals in the stadium (the two against
Sevilla followed by the first two against Zaragoza). This is proving to be the Argentinian’s
best season yet, and he is tied at the top of the ‘pichichi’ chart alongside Kanouté
(Sevilla), Rossi (Villarreal), Agüero (At. Madrid) and Sneijder (Real Madrid).
Average crowd of 75,580
The turnstiles have been clicking too. Both in Europe against Olympique (78,689 spectators),
and in the League against Sevilla (77,399) and Zaragoza (70,676), the crowds have been spectacular
this week.
Awkward times
The large crowds are especially good considering the fact
that it is quite some achievement to get 70,000 people to come along to see a midweek game that did
not kick off until 22.00. It is interesting to note that the last time Barça played a midweek
league match at that time (v At. Madrid on December 21, 2006, 1-1), a considerably lower crowd of
53,685 people showed up.
