Goals all round
Miriam Nadal
Nine Barça players have already scored in the 2007-08. 25% of the goals this season have been scored by midfielders.
These statistics relate to both League and Champions League matches. Rijkaard’s side has
scored 21 goals so far, 16 in the domestic championship, and that’s one up on the tally at
this point last season. But one of the most remarkable things is just how much those goals have
been shared among different players – no fewer than nine in total.
Midfielders
It is interesting to note how many goals have come from
midfield. Touré Yaya, Márquez, Iniesta, Xavi and Deco have all scored league goals this term.
Touré scored Barça’s third against Athletic Bilbao (3-1); Iniesta and Márquez scored
the third and fourth against Zaragoza (4-1); and Deco and Xavi got the first and third last
Sunday’s against Atletico Madrid (3-0).
Others from the forwards
Of the 16 league goals, most have been converted by the
tournament’s top scorer, Leo Messi. 3 were scored by Thierry Henry and 2 by Ronaldinho.
Puyol adds his name to list
In Europe, Barça have scored five times in two matches. Messi has two, and Henry and Carles Puyol
have one each, respectively against Olympique Marseille at the Camp Nou (3-0) and at Stuttgart
(0-2). The fifth was an own goal by Clerc in the game against the French champions.
