The FC Barcelona coach appreciates the importance of winning all three points in Villarreal and considers the need to perform on the back of a heavy international schedule offers added motivation.
“It is true that after international matches we have not presented the image of ourselves we would have liked. So tomorrow will be a test and we have to do our best.” Those were Frank Rijkaard’s words shortly before the trip down to Villarreal. Both matches played after internationals this season have ended in draws, and this is something that needs to change. “The team is full of enthusiasm. We cannot simply say we are tired. That should be an added motivator.”
Villarreal, the last defeat
Barça have not lost a league match since April 22 and that was against Pellegrini’s side. Villarreal have always proved a hard side for Barça to beat, and as Rijkaard says “El Madrigal has always been a difficult ground. It is important to get the points and that should provide added motivation to the group.” Speaking about the absent Riquelme he said “he is a great player. He has shown that with Argentina and has always played great games against us.”
Possibility of Bojan
Bojan has been in Barcelona all week, and may get to start on Saturday. The coach said “the whole squad is important and Bojan could start at any time. They are all ready. Him too.” Giovani Dos Santos only returned to the city this morning after a long journey back from Los Angeles. The Dutchman is pleased to see the youngster getting a taste of international football, and said “he is a bit tired but he has a strong mentality and is able to help the team at any time.”
The internal code
Rijkaard spoke with surprise about the Internal Code, saying “it’s odd. A lot is
being said. But the name says it all: Internal Code. It is for the squad, the players. But it
doesn’t affect me much because the players all work hard and are disciplined.”
