No rest for squad
Sandra Sarmiento / Jordi Clos
The players had a light training session on Monday after the previous night’s win against Almería. Eric Abidal, who has a slight ankle problem, worked out in the gym and did not join the rest of the squad on the training grounds.
With the next match coming up on Thursday away to Valladolid
in the league, there’s no time for a break. The senior squad trained this Monday morning at
the Masía training grounds. The players began by warming up and then Ronaldinho and Zambrotta
carried on with specific post match recovery exercises while the rest of the group took part in
ball control exercises before doing some sprinting and practising long passes. Most of the players
who took part in last night’s match then returned to the dressing rooms.
Ankle knock for Abidal
Eric Abidal was absent from training due to a heavy knock to his right ankle picked up
against Almería. The French international defender stayed for special attention in the gym.
Intense work for Edmílson
Meanwhile, José Edmílson appeared on the training grounds for a demanding individual session
of jogging and circuit training with obstacles.
Practice match
The players not used against Almería, together with Puyol
– who has recovered from his stomach trouble -finished off with a 5-a-side practice game. One
side was made up of Bojan, Ezquerro, Márquez, Sylvinho and Oleguer, and the other by Thuram, Puyol,
Gudjohnsen, Messi and Crosas.
