Fourteen Barça players have hit the target this season, showing just what a complete squad the side has, with goals coming from all positions.
One of every four goals Barça score are the work of midfielders or defenders. That’s 12
out of 46 goals, which actually amounts to slightly more than 25%.
All midfielders have scored
All five of the most commonly selected midfielders, Touré, Xavi,
Iniesta, Deco and Gudjohnsen, have scored this season, a total of nine between them. There is
nothing like having a midfield that can contribute to the attack if it is spectacular football you
are after, and Barça has plenty of that.
Good examples of the kind of goals that the Barça midfield are scoring are Xavi’s
winner against Deportivo and Iniesta’s efforts at Montjuic and Lyon.
Defenders on the scoresheet
Not all the defenders have scored, but Márquez, Milito and
Puyol all have. They may not score so often, but when they do they can turn a match. Puyol scored
the winner in Stuttgart, and Milito claimed the goal that got the three points from a difficult
visit to Recreativo Huelva. The Mexican scored Barça’s fourth against Zaragoza (4-1).
Forwards hit target 34 times
But of course it is the strikers that get the most goals, and now Eto’o has opened his
account, Ezquerro is the only forward not to have got at least one.
Between them, Henry, Eto’o, Ronaldinho, Messi, Bojan and Giovani have scored 34 times.
Messi tops the list with 12 goals; Henry follows with 8 goals, and Ronaldinho is just behind on
7.
