Exactly six months after his operation, José Edmílson was given the medical go-ahead on Friday. He has not played a match since Barça faced Getafe last season.
On June 21, José Edmílson was sent for arthroscopy on his right knee and subsequently missed out on
the game in South Africa and all the close season tours and friendlies. Six months later, and he
has been declared fit again.
Barça v Getafe
The Getafe match came three games from the end of last season. The Brazilian played all 90
minutes and received a yellow card in the 79th minute.
Bad luck with injuries
Edmílson has suffered a series of injury woes that have meant he has never managed to
establish himself as a regular in the side. In 2004 – 2005, the Brazilian seriously tore
cruciate ligaments at the Camp Nou against Numancia and was sidelined for six months
He only returned for the last two games of the season, where he was in the sides that faced
Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the league.
Edmílson also missed the 2002 World Cup in Korean and Japan following a meniscus injury in
pre-tournament training, although he was fit again in time to participate in the domestic season.
