Messi and Xavi to attend FIFA World Player gala

Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernández, Barça’s two candidates for FIFA World Player, will be at the awards gala that is to take place this coming Monday 12 January at the Zurich Opera House.
The two FC Barcelona players will meet up with Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres and Kaká on Monday at the FIFA World Player 2008 gala to be held in the Zurich Opera House. This year there are five finalists instead of three.
Press conference
Both Messi and Xavi have Pep Guardiola’s permission to travel to
Zurich after training on Monday morning. Once there, all the players will appear at a press
conference at 4 pm.
Gala begins at 8 pm
The FIFA World Player Gala will begin at 8 pm. It is to feature a review of the
football highlights of the year before the announcement of the FIFA World Player and the winners of
the Fair Play Award and the Presidential Award.
Back the same day
After the gala the two players will head straight back to Barcelona in order to resume training on Tuesday with the rest of the squad.
Messi came second in 2007
This will be Lionel Messi’s second time at the gala. Last year the Argentinean was runner-up
behind Milan’s Kaká. Third place was taken by Cristiano Ronaldo.
