End of superb away day record
Jordi Clos
The goalless draw in Montjuïc has ended FC Barcelona's run of away wins that stretched back 13 matches. It was also the first time in 28 games that Pep Guardiola's team were unable to score.
Barça's historic record of wins away from home was 13 consecutive games, but they were unable to
make it number 14 in the Copa del Rey quarter final, first leg in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys
on Wednesday evening.
Since losing on the first day of the league
season at Numancia, the Blaugrana have recorded the following results away from home: Sporting de
Gijón (1-6), Espanyol (1-2), Shakhtar (1-2), Athletic Club (0-1), Basilea (0-5), Benidorm (0-1),
Málaga (1-4), Recreativo (0-2), Sporting Clube (2-5), Sevilla (0-3), Villarreal (1-2), Atlético de
Madrid (1-3) and Osasuna (2-3).
The previous best run of consecutive away wins was eight, which was set in the 1927-28
season, while a run of seven was manged in 2005-06
No goals after 28 games
The defeat on the opening day of the season against Numancia on August 31 was also the last
time that Barça did not score in a game this term. The Catalan outfit have scored at least one goal
in every one of their next 28 matches in all competitions.
