The first penalty conceded
Jesús Carrillo
FC Barceona conceded their first penalty of the season in Santander at the weekend. The great defensive work of Pep Guardiola’s team has meant that neither Víctor Valdés, José Manuel Pinto nor Albert Jorquera have had to face a spot-kick this term.
Rafa Márquez’s tackle on Jonathan Pereira in the 54th minute of the game meant that Barça had
to face their first penalty of the campaign as the team had yet to commit a foul inside the area in
either the league, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey.
Four out of five
At the other end, Barça have won five penalty kicks and scored from four of them. The only
occasion when one of the shots from 12 yards did not go in came against Real Madrid.
Athletic Club lead the way
Athletic Club and Atlético de Madrid are the clubs that top
the list of teams to have won and conceded the most penalties. The Basque Country outfit have been
awarded a total of seven penalties and have scored five of them, while Atlético have given away
eight spot-kicks this season.
Málaga and Apoño efficiency
Málaga have the best record from the penalty spot as the Andalucian club have won six
penalties and scored them all and even more impressively it has been Apoño that has netted them
all. The worst team from 12 yards is Getafe, who have only scored three of the six that they have
had.
