A historic streak
Anna Segura
The draw with Betis marked the end Barça’s spectacular run of nine consecutive away wins. Guardiola’s side have set an extraordinary record with their best ever winning streak on the road.
The away win at Villarreal (
1-2
) was the one in which Barça beat their previous best of seven consecutive wins away from
the Camp Nou. Whether home or away, Barcelona have been on devastating form this year, and the draw
at the Ruiz de Lopera was only the second time this season that they haven’t taken all three
points from an away trip.
Gijón start
After losing the season opener at Los Pajaritos, Barça then
began their impressive away streak with a spectacular
6-1
win at the Molinón.
Espanyol, Athletic Bilbao, Malaga and Recreativo Huelva were the next to surrender to Barça
at their home stadiums.
Hard trips
Neither can it be said that Barça picked up these wins at
easy venues. Winning
3-0
away to Sevilla is no common feat, and neither do Villarreal lose at home very often.
There were further wins to come against Osasuna at the Reyno de Navarra and Racing Santander
at the Nuevo Sardinero.
25 for and 7 against
The away wins produced an amazing number of goals for Barça. As visitors they scored 25 goals
in these games and only leaked 7. Barça netted an average of 2.7 goals a game.
