Cáceres: “Every game is like the last”
Jesús Carrillo
Martín Cáceres has said in the press room at the Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper that the Barça players only ever care about the next game, and that there will be time to think about Lyon later on.
After the first training session of the week, Martín Cáceres, who started against Betis at the Ruiz
de Lopera, said he was satisfied with his performance but “unhappy with the result, but
although we only drew, considering we went two goals down, it wasn’t a bad result … We
aren’t completely satisfied, because we wanted to win”.
Ten points
Real Madrid have closed the gap on FC Barcelona by two points, but the Uruguayan isn’t
overly concerned. “Ten or twelve points, that’s not much difference. It’s two
points less, for sure, but there are also less games left, and we have to take everything into
account … What would be nice now is stretch the lead back to twelve or even more
points”.
Pressure
Asked about the teams immediately behind Barça in the table, Cáceres said “everybody is
under their own pressure. We have ours, others have their own. Truth is I don’t really think
much about who is second or third in the league. As long as we maintain our dynamic and results, it
doesn’t matter what the other teams are doing”.
Respect for Eto'o
There have been comments in the press of late about Samuel
Eto'o’s future, but Cáceres believes “he and the club will decide what’s best for
Barça. I think he’s doing fine, as ever, scoring goals and fully dedicated to achieving big
things this season. He is training hard and I hope he stays with us”.
Happy at Barça
The former Defensor Montevideo man also spoke about his personal situation. “I am
feeling better as every week goes by and I’m happier than ever at Barça. I’m getting
into the team rhythm. I want to stay here for many years, and I don’t want to read stories
about me saying I should go to another club or go out on loan. I want to stay here and don’t
want to hear any more rumours about my future” he insisted.
