After the Espanyol game, Samuel Eto'o made it clear that he wants to stay at FC Barcelona. “I don’t want to leave Barça and I don’t think they want to sell me,” he said.
The week leading up to the derby was full of debate about Samuel Eto'o’s future at Barça,
where he has a contract till 2010. He stated in the French magazine “Sportweek” that he
had decided his future, without revealing what it was, and today he added that he had no intention
of leaving Barça.
Unnecessary controversy
The Cameroon striker spoke frankly to the assembled journalists: “You have built this
up. You wanted to stir up controversy. You’ve been talking as if my contract ended in June.
You should leave us alone to get on with our work. You have created an unnecessary controversy, and
you shouldn’t have.”
Uncontroversial substitution
Eto’o was also unwilling to enter in debate about his substitution during
Saturday’s match: “Pep was looking for the best option for his team. I don’t
think he was going against his players. Maybe the game needed these changes.”
Eto’o also believed that the referee’s performance had been decisive:
“He’s had a bad night.”
