Barça’s next Liga opposition, Atlético Madrid, have drawn with Porto. In other games, Inter and Manchester United ended scoreless (0-0) while Arsenal narrowly edged it against Roma (1-0).
No fewer than three of the first leg matches on Tuesday night ended in draws, and tonight’s
only winner, Arsenal, only managed by a solitary goal. Atlético Madrid, who entertain Barça on
Sunday, were held at home by Porto at the Calderón. The Spanish side went ahead twice through Maxi
(min 3) and Forlán (min 45), but Lisandro was at hand both times to bring things level (min 21 and
71).
No goals at Giuseppe Meazza
One of the most eagerly awaited games of the night was the one between Inter Milan and
Manchester United. The Premiership outfit created plenty of chances, but failed to beat an inspired
Julio César, and it all ended goalless.
Arsenal win from the spot
The only side to take a lead into the second legs will be
Arsenal who got the better of Roma thanks to a penalty put away by Van Persie (min 36). The damage
could have been worse for the Italians, but Roma keeper Doni was on spectacular form.
Wednesday’s matches
The other half of the matches will be played on Wednesday, namely Madrid v Liverpool, Villarreal v
Panathinaikos, Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich and Chelsea v Juventus.
The second legs of these matches will take placer on March 10, and the other four games,
inclsing Barça’s with Lyon, will be on Wednsday 11 of the same month.
