www.fcbarcelona.cat
Athletic Club defeated Sevilla in first Copa del Rey semi final on Wednesady evening as Joaquín Caparrós side overcame a first leg deficit to win 3-0.
The Basque Country club reached the final for the first time in 24 seasons after a superb display
in San Mamés saw them ease to victory despite having lost the first game in Andalucia 2-1. The
atmosphere proved to be key inside La Catedral as the hosts dominated from the start and scored
through Javi Martínez, Fernando Llorente and Toquero in the first half.
Great start
Sevilla only being in the lead on aggregate for four minutes because that us how long it took
for Athletic Club to take the lead through Martínez and they then went behind ten minutes before
the break when Lorente netted. The third goal came three minutes later when Toquero netted.
Firm at the back
After the interval, Sevilla moved forward trying to reduce the deficit but Athletic stayed
form at the back and actually came close to scoring a fourth. In the end the home team made it
through and will meet FC Barcelona in the final at Mestalla on May 13.
