Welcome return
Edgar Fornós
Andrés Iniesta returned to action last week for Barça’s successful cup semi final, and was also involved in the return to winning ways against Athletic Club.
The FC Barcelona midfielder, who was sidelined through injury in February, made his comeback in the
cup at Mallorca, playing for 54 minutes before being replaced by Rafa Márquez. At the weekend
against Athletic Club, Iniesta hit the post once and was given a standing ovation when he went off,
substituted by Gudjohnsen.
Games missed
Iniesta picked up a thigh injury in training on February 17, and was out for fifteen days.
That meant he was absent from the league games against Espanyol and Atlético Madrid, as well as the
Champions League meetings with Olympique Lyon.
“An example to follow”
Speaking to the press after playing Athletic Club, Josep Guardiola said he has no doubt about
the value of Iniesta’s contribution to the team. “He sets an example for all
generations of the youth system. He is a modest player, and works hard wherever you put him. He
only thinks about playing well and helping the team. It is great for us to have a player so good
and who makes so much effort as Andrés.”
