Ricard Pruna, the first team doctor, explained today that
“resonance and x-rays have confirmed that he has a 2nd degree injury in the outer lateral
ligaments of his left ankle”, an injury he says requires “three weeks of
treatment”. Doctor Pruna added that “the outer side of the ligament is made up of three
strips, and Carles Puyol has sprained the first, and entirely torn the second and third”.
Careful recovery
Recovery is expected to take three weeks, although “depending on how the injury
develops, the pain and the player, we may be able to consider him playing part of the game with
Malaga”. However, despite this possibility, Ricard Pruna thinks it would be more sensible to
take precautions. “We would be more at ease if he had a full three weeks to recover, because
that gives us enough time to make sure the job is done properly”.

Injury that time heals
According to the FC Barcelona first team doctor, this kind of injury does not need any special
recovery schedule. It is more a matter of waiting for it to heal. “Recovery involves getting
it to grow back together, the trick is to give the body time and make sure it is well connected,
otherwise there could be problems later. Trying to get ahead of ourselves would be committing a big
mistake”.
