www.fcbarcelona.cat
Barça and Olympique Lyon meet on Wednesday in the Champions League second round. The following are some interesting pieces of trivia relating to the game.
- Barça won both the two previous meeting with the side, and Lyon have never scored. Barça won 2-0
in the 2001/02 season and 3-0 in 2007/08.
- However, Olympique Lyon, have not lost an away game in Europe this season.
- Thierry Henry scored his
first official goal for Barça against Lyon in the 2007 group stages of the Champions League, on
September 19.
- Barça have never knocked a
French
side
out of Europe in a two-legged fixture. Nice and Paris Saint-Germain both got the better
of the Catalans.
- Barça need just two goals to make the milestone of 700 in UEFA competitions.
- If he plays tonight, it will be Champions League
appearance number 50 for Víctor Valdés. Rafa Márquez is set to make the same achievement.
- Márquez and Sergio Busquets are both one yellow away from a suspension. For Lyon, Grosso,
Cris and Toulalan are in the same situation.
- No Barça player has played in all nine of Barça’s European games this season. Valdés,
Piqué, Xavi and Henry have all played in eight. But Lyon have no fewer than six ever-presents, and
Lloris and Toulalan have not missed a single minute.
- Barça still tops the ranking for the most goals (19) and the most shots on target (59) in
this competition. They are also the surviving team that has committed the fewest fouls (83).
- Olympique Lyon, however, have one of the players who has had the most fouls blown against
him, Toulalan. He has 20, which ties him with Rochemback of Sporting Lisbon.
- Juninho, who scored Lyon’s goal in the first leg, also scored in this round of the
Champions League in 2004/05 (against Werder Bremen) and 2005/06 (against PSV). His side made into
the quarter finals both times.
