“Tomorrow’s game is the most important”

Marc Guillén

FC Barcelona’s coach explained the key to the final stages of the league: “As long as we can focus on the next match above any other, we’ll have a good chance of winning titles”.

Josep Guardiola believes his players’ mentality is the key to winning titles this season. The Barça coach doesn’t want his players to set their sights on winning one specific title “or we’ll lose them all”. “If I had to prioritize one of them, it would be the league because it’s what gives you stability and sets the tone for the team. We have to focus on the next match above any other.

Malaga’s strengths

Tomorrow, Barça will have a tough match against sixth-placed Malaga: “They are having a good season; they are fast on the wing and good in midfield. Duda is a great striker and the fact that he’s the fourth best away goal-scorer says it all”.

A Promising April

In April Barça face Champions League and Spanish league ties every three days, but Guardiola isn’t worried about the team’s fitness: “Their fitness isn’t an issue, and we’re lucky to have an April like that. We are looking forward to it, and it’s worth enjoying it”

Champions League Draw

Guardiola would have liked to have had the second leg of the Champions League tie at home, but he’s not too worried about it and said “we’ll have to play well in both games”. “The games will be enjoyable because we are playing against an historical team who have some great players, a great stadium and a mythical president in Beckenbauer”.

Eto'o and the press
The Catalan coach wanted to comment on recent rumours in the press saying he had already decided on a replacement for Cameroon player Samuel Eto’o: “I think a player who has scored so many goals and played so many games for this club should be given more respect. He doesn’t deserve it and I don’t understand it because it’s a decision I have to make with Txiki at the end of the season. There are seasons when the team has no title-winning options, but that’s not the case this season. I don’t understand it, but we have to put up with it. Eto’o will go on scoring goals”.
